Pelican Bay is one of the largest communities in North Naples stretching from Seagate Drive north to Vanderbilt Beach Road and U.S. 41.
Founded upon preservation, conservation, and development land, more than 2,330 acres were purchased from Barron Collier of the Collier family in 1972 by Coral Ridge Properties (CRP). CRP, a division of Westinghouse (later known as Westinghouse Community Development Corporation and eventually, WCI Communities Inc.) hired the Environmental Planning and Design Firm (EPD) to carry out the plans for what is today called “a model of environmental planning.”
Homes in Pelican Bay
There are a total of 85 distinct communities within Pelican Bay from beautiful multimillion dollar homes and waterfront estates to simple lofts and studio condominiums.
In 1973, EPD presented two alternatives for developing the site. The first was a more conventional plan, which would have destroyed much of the 570 acres of mangroves preserving open water areas. The firm’s preferred alternative reflecting its conversations with local environmental officials, preserved the mangrove and placed higher density development along the edge of the shore.
Joe Taravella, president of Coal Ridge Properties, boldly chose the second option.
The finest amenities at Pelican Bay are the two beaches accessible to residents on foot or by solar powered trams. Elegant and casual dining options are also available at the four exclusive private beachfront restaurants.
The onsite Community Center at Pelican Bay houses a state-of-the-art fitness center, wellness studio, computer center, art studio and meeting rooms and 18 Har-tru Tennis courts.
Artis-Naples and the Waterside Shops are also close by.
Residents can enjoy fitness classes at the 25,000-square-foot community center or a variety of social and cultural events including dinner dances, dinner and a movie, socials and art shows and luncheons.
